Pilar Sada

Pilar Sada de Caballero discovered her interest in photography as a nine-year old observing her father and collecting his cast off photos to create her own albums. By the time she was in high school, she was a dedicated aficionado. A native of Monterrey, NL, México, she spent her junior and senior years in Cincinnati, Ohio where she took her first formal photography classes and won top honors in statewide student competitions. At that point she received an extraordinary gift from her father, a camera with interchangeable lenses – his camera!

Returning to Monterrey, Pilar Sada married and got busy raising a family. As the years went by, she continued to love photography, capturing images of every family event and vacation, lining the hallways of her home with memories of her children growing up. It wasn’t until recent years that she realized how she could use photography for self-expression. She joined a photo club led by Monterrey’s top photographers and was captivated by the lens once more. As her hobby grew, Sada began to experiment with color and light and rediscovered her original enthusiasm for photography as an art form.

She took a seminar from National Geographic photographers in San Miguel de Allende and became an organizer for similar workshops with National Geographic.

Although Sada de Caballero has photographed animals in Africa, pyramids in Egypt, and bears in Alaska, her greatest passion continues to be photographing the people of México. She likes to photograph them in their own environment, doing their daily activities and reflecting their culture. Her affection for cultural expression has allowed her to unite her two favorite passions: México and the camera.
